What's the catch with a $49 white-label AI platform?

The catch is the limits: one published demo, 100 voice minutes, a five-minute call cap, and client builds priced separately at wholesale. Here is every limit, what happens at the cap, and who should skip it.

The catch with a $49 a month white-label AI platform is the limits. You get one published demo at a time, 100 live voice minutes, 500 chat messages, 50 website audits and a five-minute cap on any single call. Client builds are not included in the $49. You pay wholesale for each one, agreed on a call before anything is built. If you can live with those limits, there is no hidden fee, no metered invoice and no lock-in. If you can't, this is not your platform.

We would rather you read that now than discover it in week three. Below is every limit, what happens when you hit it, and who should look elsewhere.

What do you actually get for $49 a month?

The plan covers the agency side of the business. That means a live demo site on your subdomain, an agency-branded dashboard, a client portal, access to the fulfillment platform and onboarding help for deals you close. Your logo, colors and booking link sit on everything a prospect sees. You can see the full list in the pricing section.

It does not cover the cost of building and running a client's system. That is a separate wholesale price per build, and you set the retail price on top. Think of $49 as the cost of owning the storefront, not the inventory.

What are the limits, exactly?

Here is the full set, straight from our own pricing page.

  • Published demos at once: 1. Draft demos are unlimited.
  • Live voice minutes a month: 100
  • Chat messages a month: 500
  • Website audits a month: 50
  • Length of any single call: 5 minutes
  • Verticals: 100+ packs

The voice number is the one people ask about. At roughly two and a half minutes per demo call, 100 minutes covers about forty calls a month. That is plenty if you are sending a handful of demos a week. It is not enough if you plan to blast a thousand prospects and let each one talk to the receptionist. We wrote a longer breakdown in will 100 voice minutes cover your demo pipeline.

Why are the voice minutes capped at all?

Because voice costs real money per minute, and we would rather cap it than bill you a surprise. For scale, Vapi lists $0.05 a minute for hosting alone, with the speech, language model and voice providers passed through at cost on top, and carrier charges on top of that. Retell lists $0.07 to $0.31 a minute depending on the stack you pick. So a hundred minutes of demo calls has a hard cost somewhere around $7 at the bottom of that range and well above it at the top. A flat plan with no usage invoice only works if the usage has a ceiling.

What happens when you hit the cap?

The live parts pause. Everything else keeps working. Your page, your portal and your dashboard stay up, and the voice and chat nodes stop taking new sessions until the next billing cycle.

Your prospect never sees a billing message and never sees your plan name. They see a neutral note that the demo is not accepting calls right now. That matters, because a prospect who opens a link the morning after a big send and finds a paywall will assume you are a small operation. A neutral pause is a bad moment, not a lost deal, as long as you reply and offer a call.

The plan never sends a metered invoice. You cannot overspend, which is the point.

What does a client build cost on top?

Each build carries a setup fee and a wholesale monthly, plus voice minutes where the line takes calls. You agree the numbers on a 30-minute call before anything starts. Our current guide ranges, which are what you pay us and not what your client pays, run like this.

  • Top tier with voice AI: $1,150 to $1,400 setup, then $315 to $460 a month, plus $0.35 a minute on voice
  • Tier two: $800 to $1,075 setup and $270 to $415 a month
  • Tier one: $650 to $775 setup and $170 to $215 a month
  • Website plus AI chatbot: $550 setup and $125 a month
  • A single service on its own: from $100 setup and $15 a month

Two things to notice. First, the monthly platform fee and the build prices are separate lines, so a $49 plan with no client builds costs you $49 and earns nothing. Second, the voice rate on a live client line is per minute, which means a busy receptionist for a dental practice costs more than a quiet one. Price your retail monthly with that in mind. We cover the pricing side in how to charge clients for AI voice minutes.

Is there a catch with the demo itself?

Yes, and it is a visible one. Every demo carries a notice that the AI is a sandbox and that bookings made in it are simulated. It is the one thing we do not let you remove. Nothing on the page says Lumina, but the sandbox line is always there.

We hold that line because the demo is not connected to a prospect's real calendar or phone system. Pretending otherwise would set you up for a bad conversation later. If you think a disclosure hurts your close rate, read does a sandbox notice hurt your AI demo close before you decide.

Who should not buy this?

Skip it if any of these describe you.

You want to run hundreds of outbound demos a month. One published demo and 100 voice minutes will pinch you, and you are better off with a metered voice API where you pay for exactly what you use. The tradeoff there is that you build the portal, billing and onboarding yourself.

You want to resell your own custom code and charge a build fee you set from scratch. Our model assumes you order builds from us at wholesale. If your edge is bespoke engineering, a white-label stack will feel restrictive.

You need the demo to connect to a live calendar or CRM before the sale. The demo is a sandbox on purpose. Real integrations happen during the build, after the close.

You are not planning to sell. At $49 a month the plan is cheap, but only if it produces deals. A subscription you open twice is the most expensive tool in your stack.

What if you cancel?

Nothing is deleted. Published demos unpublish so the links stop serving, and everything you built stays as a draft. You stay signed in with zero voice, chat and audit allowance until you resubscribe, and then it all comes back unchanged. The full answer is in what happens to your demos and clients if you cancel. One caution. Unpublishing a demo breaks the link you already sent, so do not cancel the week a prospect is about to open it.

FAQ

Is there a setup fee for the $49 plan?

No. The platform is $49 a month. Setup fees apply only to client builds you order, and you see those numbers on a 30-minute call before anything is built.

Can I run more than one demo at a time?

Only one can be published at once. Drafts are unlimited, so build one per trade you pitch and publish the one you need.

Do my prospects ever see the Lumina name?

Not on a published demo. They see your logo, colors, subdomain and booking link, plus the sandbox disclosure. The dashboard is your agency's workspace.

What happens if my prospect hits the cap during a call?

The live node pauses and the prospect sees a neutral message that the demo is not accepting calls. They never see a billing notice. Watch your usage page and keep the pitch calls short.

Is $49 the real total cost of starting?

For the platform, yes. Each client build adds its own wholesale setup and monthly, and you collect the retail price from your client on top. Our breakdown in what it costs to start an AI agency covers the wider startup costs.

Your next step

Open the live demo, call the receptionist for a trade you actually sell into, and time how long a normal conversation runs. Multiply by the number of demos you would send in a month and compare it to 100 minutes. If the answer is comfortable, start at $49 a month. If it isn't, you just saved yourself a subscription.
